Artist: Deathabalone CD Title: Deathabalone Label: Unsigned Reviewer: Rhys Stevenson Date: 5-31-10
Inspired by the ever growing visual kei scene, Deathabalone is the latest melodic death metal act to arise from the land of the rising sun, also known as Japan.Coming from Tokyo, this quartet of Japanese musicians know how to create melodic death metal in such a unique way, Sweden’s Sonic Syndicate has now a rival, taking into account who has been around longer, Deathabalone are still quite young, nonetheless they pack a powerful demo. This two track demo may not seem much to begin with, but keep on listening and you’ll realise how strong and majestic they are at creating sublime melodic death metal. The Asian metal scene is ever-growing, with Japan firmly leading the way to delivering metal, Deathabalone is no exception, they maybe underground, but that’s where all of the big talents started from, and with this classic demo, they deserve to be up there with the big guns. From this demo, my favourite song is ‘rise in rebellion’, not only is it fast-paced, but the vocals keep the brutality going, the guitars are scintillating, not only do they deliver the melodic sides, but they add ferocity to the band’s persona. So forget about the European metal scene, Japan is calling for acknowledgement, and with this demo, they got it. Deathabalone is one band that any melodic death fan should not ignore, if they do, they would have made a grave error. Don’t let the visual ‘emo’ looks fool you, they may look emo, but the music certainly is not, its got more balls than Varg Vikernes when committed arson. https://www.myspace.com/deathabalone For fans of Sonic Syndicate, Scar Symmetry, God Dethroned and Wintersun.
