Artist: Thurisaz
Album: Circadian Rhythms
Label: Shiver Records
Shiver Records definitely has an ear for talent in Belgium as this is just another of their quality bands on the label. Originally known as Modilium, Thurisaz formed in 1997 and Circadian Rhythms is their second full-length album. Thurisaz play an atmospheric mix of black and death metal with which their dual vocals performed by guitarists Mattias and Peter work perfectly. These guys remind me a bit of Opeth with more of an epic feel to their music. While bassist Lars and drummer Pepijn handle the rhythm section of the band with Pepijn also handling the whispered parts of the album, Kobe creates the epic atmosphere with his keyboard playing. The lyrics deal with depression and doom and there is a definite air of melancholy on this album, especially with some of the acoustic guitar passages. The music on "Circadian Rhythms" is not extremely groundbreaking but it is really well played and I think it's a good album. This is another solid release out of Belgium and for fans of atmospheric black/death metal this would be a release you should check out.
