Artist: Dismember
Album: Dismember
Label: Regain Records

This is the new self-titled release from Swedish death metal legends Dismember on Regain Records. Anyone familiar with the Swedish death metal scene will know Dismember right away. Over the past ten years they have sadly released some really mediocre albums so I haven't paid much attention to them since "Indecent and Obscene". It's a shame because that album and "Like an Everflowing Stream" were excellent. So, when I received the album I was really interested in finding out if they've changed much. Maybe they went back to their roots and this album would really impress me.

When the albums started out with "Death Conquers All" it gave me some hope. It's actually a pretty good track and from start to finish it just rages. "Europa Burns" was the next track and it started out fine, but halfway through the song it sounded like the same riff over and over and over again. There wasn't much change or originality in it at all. Sadly, that can be used to describe the rest of the album as well. "Dismember" just couldn't keep my interest at all. There's nothing on here that is groundbreaking or even new sounding. This was just another uninteresting and mediocre release from the Dismember camp. I just don't think there's any hope that Dismember will go back to playing with the intensity and conviction that they used to have.
