No wonder Anders Manga had so many downloads in 2005, because who wouldn’t want to check out their debut album, “One Up for the Dying” because it is explosive. After listening to the CD you know that these guys will be around for a while. So, what is the deal? Well Anders Manga has a perfect balance of goth and dark EBM melodies that are infectious. Not to mention that the vocals have a dark gothic tone that is rich and seductive. The electronics have a great thick feel and deep pounding bass that is catchy and danceable. I highly recommend DJ’s to play this CD on radio stations and at clubs that all club goers to request Anders Manga if it is not being played. Anders Manga is fresh and have something unique about them. Where it takes some bands in the Gothic and EBM genre a long time to break out into the scene, Anders Manga brought their music on “One Up for the Dying” to the table, but on a silver platter and was like here you go! Boom! One of the songs on the "One Up for the Dying" that really stuck with me was, “Shiver”, which is dark, elegant, with rich keyboards that create the perfect dark mood and the video was amazing, which helped push the song for all that it was. Although, “Shiver” was not that danceable, it was a comforting track that demonstrated how versatile Anders Manga could be and showed us. For me, “Shiver”, has a tribal element that was another defining element to the style of the song and for the feel of the album. If you are looking for more danceable club hits, then look no further to “Solitary Heaven”. “Solitary Heaven” is a solid and powerful track that is sure to please because of its catchy dark danceable anthem like quality that just sweeps you from under your feet. When I listen to this song, I always feel that this has a certain kind of jingle to it, and has a real swooping buzz and looping essence about it. “Solitary Heaven” is a true leader on the CD but there are other notable songs such as “The Source”, that grabs your attention again with its dark EBM melody, but the vocals are seductive before and after the main chorus. It is the chorus where the vocals have been taken up a notch in pitch, and not so gothic in nature but works great for the song. I also like the layer of the two vocal ranges. With just one member in the band at the time of this release, Anders has displayed a powerful debut and really has made a name for himself. Anders Manga has been their mark and I can’t think of a better time for them to be making music then now. I highly recommend checking our their debut release and especially the following tracks: “ We Won’t Stay Dead”, “Heart of Black”, Solitary Heaven”, “Shiver”, “The Source” and “Burn” which highlight the more EBM moments and dark softer side of the band. I am already looking forward to more from Anders Manga after this promising album.
