Artist: The Drowning Season CD Title: New Disease Label: Morphenic Release Reviewer: Marcos Massarri Date: 7/2/04 |
“A new three song teaser from this excellent band that should keep fans busy until their next full length is released. Not unlike their “Hollow” record, “New Disease” continues to push their creativity at performing their own brew of infectious dark rock without giving into trends proving that there’s still plenty of interest & talent residing in the gothic, alternative music scene. The title track opens with their already familiar gothic rock dance vibe full on lovely piano keys, numbly brooding drum programming, melodically passive vocals, & the stainless steel tentacles of the guitars. “Believe” slithers more like an edgy confession throwing it’s hand at subtle electronics backed by pretty violin strings yet still refusing their bleak atmosphere any room to breath while “Vicious” gives a fierce punch breaking open post punk anguish in all it’s dimly lit persona. They are by far one of the best new & talented bands on the scene & may give other up & coming acts a big slap in the face. This is absolutely brilliant stuff so play this loud! Recommended if you like Funhouse, Complicity, The Mission, etc.” -Marcos
