Cybernetic Erosion is the project of Russian-born Vadim Davidson, a current resident of Knoxville, TN. Abominant Transmissions is Davidson’s 2nd offering as Cybernetic Erosion since its inception in 1998. This self-made and released CD-r is composed of dark, theatrical EBM reminiscent of Mainesthai, Skinny Puppy’s earlier work (ala the Choke), or even Oneroid Psychosis.

The sound is low-tech, with a purposefully creepy edge. An edge that won’t put chills up your spine, but somehow makes you feel vicariously evil just for listening. Everything about Abominant Transmissions is refreshingly low-fi; Old-school recording and synthesizing methods that seem all but gone in today’s technological race for the best instruments.

There is a lot of personality in Cybernetic Erosion’s Abominant Transmissions. While I don’t see this album ever becoming a club hit, I find myself more able to enjoy this release than the last few club hits I’ve been submitted to. In the end, Abominant Transmissions isn’t offering anything particularly new, but proves that low-tech can still be fun.
