Album: Yesteryears – radio existence
Label: Alfa Matrix
Genre: elektro / pop rock
Release Date: September 20th 2013
Diskonnekted, hailing from Belgium, and recording on the Belgian label Alfa Matrix, have released a digital EP building around the track “Yesteryears” from their previous full-length album Hotel Existence.
As the entire EP is built around “Yesteryears”, the melancholic and deeply melodic feeling of this track ripples through the entire EP. Remixes of Neuroticfish and Edge of Dawn are added to the EP as well.
Alfa Matrix explains the history of the track and EP as follows: “The adventure of "Yesteryears" actually started some years ago when keyboardist Didier 'Snake' Salvatore wrote the blueprint for the track. That blueprint became the original demo version of "Yesteryears" to which Jan Dewulf later added the vocal line. That unreleased version remained untouched for quite a long time until Jan made a whole new version leaving the original trance sound out of the cut and adding guitars instead. This became the album version as we know it. Diskonnekted made a new club edit of the album version especially for the EP, while Snake introduced his very own solo project by reworking the original version with his fresh and trancy Liquid Newt mix. Diskonnekted also teamed up with long time comrades This Morn' Omina for a very ethereal and ambient layered remix of "Tunnel Vision", while Halo in Reverse re-imagined the landscape of "Neverland" giving it a dark and mellow twist. Add also a new club edit of "Empty", a heavy beat re-interpretation of the old "Personal Demon" and the explosive VIP version of "Justify".”
Overall, the type of elektro that Diskonnekted makes is more elektropop with synth pop influences, and reminds me of Depeche Mode. By all means, the resulting Yesteryears EP is a very catchy album, and I enjoyed listening to it many times before writing this review.
Some extra features of the EP are “Empty”, which turned out to be a loungy track, and “Justify” with its dubstep/metalstep influence that reminds me of Celldweller.
To conclude: if you're looking for an enjoyable EP with some good beats, just pick up a copy of Yesteryears by Diskonnekted.
