In 2006 when To Be Fed Upon, Die Sektor's label debut came out, I was listening to a lot of Psyclon Nine, Manufactura, and Velvet Acid Christ- as many of us were. A friend of mine handed me a mix CD one day with Your Deception on it, and I remember hearing it for the first time and being blown away. Hailing from Atlanta, Die Sektor is a brilliant combination of harsh vocals, experimental noise, and blaring synth lines. It was all of my favorite music in one genius creation. It had the glitchy noise elements and the terror vocals that I liked.

After 5 long years with no releases, Die Sektor broke the silence with an announcement of a second studio album Applied Structures in a Void. They joined the Facebook frenzy and started attacking the promotional bandwagon. I was infinitely excited. I ordered it straight from the label, it came two days later and I threw it up on the big-boy speakers in my studio. The first track Accelerant came on with a hard hitting baseline, a nice build up, some glitchy noises and then out of no where a sudden vocal change throws me off. A very Combichrist-ish vocal styling unlike the previous staple terror-style-distorted-scream. I have to admit it turned me off quite a bit. However! Fear not! There is still some of that in there, you just have to get past the first impression.

After listening to the album all of the way through the first time, I was thoroughly impressed. Tracks like Death At First Light, are prime examples of musical genius. I think that Applied Structures in a Void was definitely an album made for musicians and people who can appreciate a versatile styling. The difference in the music style was so different that the band put out a comment on their Facebook and last.fm page stating that they knew it would be a controversial change for them, but they had no intention of writing a To Be Fed Upon Part II.

So, in conclusion, this is not your everyday four on the floor elitist TerrorEBM. However! I still give it a very strong push for fans of the old Die Sektor because I think that if you really give it a shot, and get past that initial shock, you will find those similarities that you liked from the first album. I think that it is a very bold move on their part, and I think that it turned out very well for them.
