ARTIST: Interface ALBUM: Destination Focus LABEL: Nilaihah Records REVIEWER: Matthew J. DATE: 6-13-10 Uploaded with ImageShack.us This seven-track EP kicks off with "Destination," a solid trance-influenced EBM offering with clean vocals soaring over pulsing beats. Robotic vocoder effects on the bridge give things a more futuristic flavor. Several artists offer remixes, with Code 64's more techno-fueled version being the most memorable; besides filling out the sound with analog synthesizers that recall old 8-bit video game soundtracks, Code 64 also amplify the female backing vocals. Barely identifiable in the original version, they form the centerpiece to Code 64's remix. State of the Union and Mindless Faith's remixes are solid but less distinctive, the former adding bass, the latter giving things a more robotic feel. The EP also features several other Interface originals, including the melancholy but dance-ready "North Star," the stark electro and spoken word of "After Hours," and perhaps best of all, the dark trance progressions of instrumental "Inferno." All in all, it's a nice introduction to Interface, likely to appeal to newcomers as well as longtime fans of the project; while DJs are bound to appreciate the remixes, casual listeners can enjoy the variety of styles on display.
