CD Title: Eclectric

Label: Alfa-Matrix

Psy’Aviah is a female-fronted industrial-rock band from Antwerp, Belgium. “Eclectric” is the follow up disk to 2008’s “Entertainment Industries”. This is Psy’Aviah’s second album with Alfa Matrix and third album overall. A companion disk “Electricism” is also available as part of a 2 CD set with “Eclectric.” Psy’Aviah writes lush and melodic melodic electronic rock, with soaring vocals and nods to electro, electro-clash and EBM.Overall, “Eclectric” is a pretty diverse album. The album opens with the track “No Excuse,” which is pretty straightforward electronic rock in a similar vein of The Birthday Massacre or Mankind is Obsolete. “All About You”’s heavy vocoding comes across as slightly more electro influenced. The song settles into an electronic groove and stays there, it’s a good song to keep a floor moving. “Something Evil” has a great vocal hook which draws the listener in. “Anger Management” and “Paranoid” are a touch more EBM than the songs which preceded them. These songs are dance-floor ready. “Blackhole” slows the pace of the album somewhat, it is surprisingly ethereal and melodic. Still, the song is impressive. “Sweet Hard Revenge” moves back into dance territory. “Into the Game” returns to a bouncy, pop meme, with a fierce electro edge. The offerings on “Eclectric,” as the name suggests, are pretty diverse. Fans of female-fronted electro and industrial will find a solid album with good compositions, though not every song may hit the mark. The album is likely to appeal to fans of industrial rock, and offers enough surprises to keep the listener listening to the end of the album. It’s worth the listen.
