Menschdefekt began as the solo project of Dominik R. in 2006, recently, the band picked up Swedish singer Fredrik Croona. Menschdefekt is starting to gain some traction, with a remix of Aesthetic Perfection and a track appearing on the latest version of the Endziet Bunkertracks compilation. Menschdefekt’s album “The Human Parasite” is fourteen tracks of harsh electro, which somewhat nondescript, but there is a lot of great sampling, and infectious beats. In a couple songs, the vocals are somewhat hard to make out, and seem to sit too low in the mix. The result is very dark, aggressive album with the overall effect of being rather relentless. The album opens with the title track, featuring the now familiar sample from the Matrix movie. The track “Psycho Bitch” features great sampling and a driving beat. Early in the album it’s a standout track. “Instincts of Corruption” has some great programming, the song builds to a chorus which is one of the strongest moments of the album. “Dekadenz” is another floor-ready stomper. “The Way” reminds a bit of Suicide Commando, but doesn’t seem derivative. “Mind Control” has a lead synth that seems to draw a bit from synth-pop and Futurepop influences. “Piggy” is aggressive and catchy, another standout track. All in all, “The Human Parasite” is a good collection of floor-ready electro. There are several tracks here that might, and ought to, go into club rotation. However, there isn’t much to distinguish Menschdefekt from a lot of other electro acts out there. Menschdefekt has great beats, great sampling, and as a whole it’s a good album, if not a great one.
