Artist: Detroit Diesel CD Title: Terre Humaine Label: Deathwatch Asia Reviewer: Robert Eaton Date: 5-31-10
Detroit Diesel is an unsigned harsh electro act out of Quebec, Canada. Formed in 2006, their album “Terr Humaine” is the band’s second disk, following 2008’s “Dancing With Terror.” The album’s ten tracks showcasing a variety of early EBM and hellektro influences, and compares favorably to acts such as Dioxide or Derma-Tek. The band was likewise featured on the 2009 Endziet Bunkertracks compilation. The album opens with “All Lost Before Dawn” which slowly builds to a slow bpm romp with distorted vocals, with an erie background vocal sample. “Bring Me Noise” makes good use of sampling in it’s opening, it’s great dance track. “Lost Signal” draws on a bit more of a techno influence, but is aggressive and fast. With the stomping, melodic chorus, it makes one of the album’s strongest tracks. “Red Rebels” begins with a martial-sounding beat, and is a strong track, as well. The title track sounds too familiar, like we have heard this before, and indeed we have. Still, the song will probably sound good as a DJ’s go-to. The band has yet to really distinguish its sound from many of its contemporaries, but the band seem to have found a consistent sound with this album: fast and harsh. The album is a strong effort, that will hopefully result in label interest. There’s plenty here that will move a floor. For fans of hellektro, fair be it to say, this may be an act to watch for the future. https://www.myspace.com/detroitdieselmusic |
