Belgian act NTRSN (pronounced Intrusion) sounds like old EBM, aggressive, and with analog-centric synth arrangements. NTRSN does EBM, the way we liked it, back then. The band even touts its use of analog on its web-site. Even so, for all the band’s preoccupation with all things analog, this is a very solid, modern-sounding album and not just a throwback one. EBM fans old and new will find and album of well-constructed, visceral songs. NTRSN might be the perfect antidote to digitized EBM for those that like their EBM with just a little more muscle. The album opens with “Flashback,” short, but worth of a stomping dance floor. The title track is another very good track, surprisingly melodic and catchy. The song mixes new-wave sensibility with a relentless beat. “Coming End’s” simplistic shouted verses hit with a surprising force. “You See Me” seems to reference “Join the Chant.” The song certainly has it’s inspiration’s immediacy and force. “Bodychange” is a haunting instrumental. Man is Machine is a striking, aggressive track, with a driving beat and earsplitting noise. Chaosfields slows the pace some, but is another cool instrumental track, if more subdued. “We Hate You” features a chugging guitar and sounds like an 8-bit video game, but in the best possible way. NTRSN reminds the listener why the great EMB of the past was great. It stands out as original in a sea of sameness. There is a thread here of the bold musical experimentation which has always been a part of industrial music. “People Like Gods” is a really cool album, whether your a fan of the heady early days of EBM, or just jaded with what watered-down EBM has become. NTRSN is worth checking out.
