Cesium 137 returns with their new album “Identity.” “Identity” is their follow up to the “The Fall” single/digi-single. The 10 track album features Cesium 137’s signature driving dance beats, with heavy techno and synth-pop influences. Flawlessly produced and programmed, the album occasionally falls flat nonetheless. Full of pop melody, the songs of the album don’t demonstrate a great deal of diversity. The opening tracks are characteristic Cesium 137 synth-pop. “Stray” is likely to become frequent DJ choice, it’s a great familiar sounding dance track, for those whose taste in electronica veers towards techno. “Vexed” is slow and triply, it’s a much more minimalist arrangement than many of the albums other tracks. “Dither” is pretty forgettable techno-pop with an interesting new-wave sounding vocal. “Firewalker” is a lush soundscape with a soft piano embellishment throughout and plaintive female vocals in the background. Later in the album: the interplay between male and female vocals in “Always” stands as one of the album’s strongest moments. “Identity” as a whole, is a largely forgettable nugget of synth pop. Per usual, Cesium 137’s “Identity” has its good songs, but it is an unremarkable album.
