ARTIST: End: The DJ ALBUM: The Chrome Elemental LABEL: Xenomorph Productions REVIEWER: Matthew J. DATE: 2-7-09 On his first official mix album, End: The DJ combines the dance floor aggression of EBM with the technical prowess and finesse of the best techno DJs. Opening with an introduction created specifically for this mix by up and coming EBM act Ginger Snap5, this release segues from the trance-infused rhythmic noise of Neurotixxik's "Lethal Injection and E.I.D.'s "Kill! Kill! Kill!" to the more melodic pop and trance stylings of Apoptygma Berzerk's "Suffer in Silence," remixed here by Sebastian Komor, and Alien Vampires' instrumental track "Dark Skies." Most of the songs presented here are on the techno side of the spectrum, exemplified by Squarehead's aggressive electro track "The Generator (Beat Modulator)," but that only makes sense; the thumping electronic kicks give End: The DJ a chance not only to highlight promising new artists like Stahlnebel and Black Selket, but also to show off his own abilities to perfectly match beats and integrate disparate-sounding tracks into a single consistent groove. Techno fans will appreciate this mix as a technical accomplishment, while EBM and power noise fans will enjoy its presentation of cutting-edge new club tracks; this is a mix everyone can get on board with, and since it's being offered as a free download, there's no reason not to check it out.
