ARTIST: Alien Produkt ALBUM: Ignorance LABEL: BLC Productions REVIEWER: Matthew J. DATE; 8-6-07 They're aren't a lot of bands in the terror EBM scene that really understand pacing. Alien Produkt is one of those rare exceptions. The Argentina project's new CD is less notable for its dance floor moments, though those are definitely in evidence, than for the moments when the band has the sense to ratchet things down a little. "Curtain of Shadows" is a good example of this; it starts off with heavenly synths and strings, and that majestic introduction makes the pounding club beats sound all the more impressive when they kick in. Likewise, "Reign of Ignorance," a slower, moodier darkwave piece pairing female soprano vocals with growled male whispers, comes on right at the album's halfway point, a perfect moment for a breather between the slick, driving electronics of "Involution" and the guttural aggression of "Acceso Denegado." As far as the straightforward dance tracks themselves, they are without exception hard, slick, and futuristic. Highlights include "City of Fakes" with its soaring bridge, "El Proceso" with its clattering industrial snare, and "Slander," with its raspy whispers and merciless power noise rhythm. A couple of remixes by Suicide Solution and Deadjump are tacked on as bonus tracks, but even without them, there's more than enough here to keep you moving. Thanks to a couple of well-placed atmospheric moments, you'll even get the chance to refill your drink in between stomps. Go to www.alienprodukt.com.ar for more information. |
