When you think of the expression “Rock out with your cock out”, what exactly comes to mind? Did you instantly think of the Eagles of Death Metal? In that case, I agree. Reeling in that dirty mind of yours is exactly what this band has in mind on it’s new album Death By Sexy. Founded by, and on the drums, Queens of the Stone Age frontman Josh Homme, this album truly brings the animalistic pleasures of sex, and thrusts them to the forefront on most, if not all tracks of this testosterone charged album. Jesse Hughes supplies the Freddie Mercury meets George Clinton vocals, and there’s the cameos by uber comedian Jack Black and that one guy you’ve probably heard of, Dave Grohl. The album hits it all off with I Want You So Hard (Boy’s Bad News), a raucous two minute grind through hazy guitars, with a sound like Lynyrd Skynyrd had they grown up going to CBGB’s. The album truly hits a high note with track 2, I Got A Feeling (Just Nineteen), showing that with lyrics like “I touch you there because I know the spot, you know I’m everything that he’s just not”, this track simply exudes sex from every pore, dripping catchy pop melodies on you like hot wax onto a naked body. The bass line on the Ballad of Queen Bee and Baby Duck is one of the best riffs heard all year, and the vocal cameo of Brody Dalle of Distillers fame really sets this track apart from the rest, as the spacey lyrics are ruled by the surreal relationship between Dalle and Homme. Overall, not an album that should be taken as seriously, as say, a Coldplay cd, but definitely one of the most sexually appealing, and explosive rock albums to come out in 2006.
