The Raygun Girls combine industrial electronics and alternative rock to give you this intense in your face sound. Their music reminds me of a gritty and raw Killing Joke. The band uses thick bass and crunchy guitars to stir things up. The vocals have a gritty sound but very powerful like you would hear from Jaz Colemen in Killing Joke. “Accelerate” is a fast paced, punk like attitude sound. The guitar is a main driving force of this song while the synths keep right up with the guitar. Just like the song title, it is about going fast! “Betrayal”, has more of a laid back programming and now seems to be more synth orientated approach. The vocals have a raspy style to go with the swing of the electronics. “Angel Eyes” has an atmospheric sound and has more of a gothic tone. This is song tends to be moody and is one of the more- slower driven songs but has a big sound and is one of my favorites. I like how during the chorus of “I am Falling Down” there is a mix of both male and female vocals. You can tell that the band is using real drums and does not rely totally on drum programming. The album has a good mix and variety of song styles and really does have an alternative rock edge. You will even find a cover of Berlin’s Metro. Overall, Mars Eclipsing is a decent electronic rock CD from The Raygun Girls. Other suggested tracks would be: “Bombs” and “Silver Dust” which both have a great mix of everything the band has to offer.
