Saint Eve- Elixer

NYC’s Saint Eve is one of the best female industrial/ alternative rock artists I have heard in a long time. Musically, Saint Eve is in the vein of Nine Inch Nails meets Garage. At times I feel her sound also has a Siouxsie & The Banshee influence. This girl knows how to rock!! You will first hear razor sharp sounds and bass pounding beats laced around rock guitar melodies. The music has a dark sound but also has a dark pop sound which gives its it even more catchiness. Elixer has a lot of muscle from the start to the finish. “Heartblack Amnesiac” has a solid mix of guitars the powerful electronics that have a razor type sounds. Next, “Secret Special Toy Surprise” is has heavy electronics and at times has a laid back approach. It is a great build up between the laid back side, which slowly breaks out to this highly melodic industrial rock hook. This has a much heavier sound then the first track. Another great part of this song is where you will hear the vocalist take on a more rap style approach and then it bursts in this industrial rock anthem and would make a great moment to start moshing or something. “Jets,” this is a awesome song and that is pretty much all I have to say! I like the beginning where it sounds like they are experimenting with sounds. You will hear a little bit of a chord or a melody and they will stop and switch it. It is a great approach for the beginning of the song. This song also has a great industrial rock sound especially with the guitar use which has more of a distorted sound and a thick fuzz sound. This is one of the most rockin’ songs on this CD. The guitar jabs, and jabs and is highlighted many times during the song. Saint Eve also offers a track all in Spanish and I thought this was very cool. Again it has a deep bass sound with synth-pop electronics. Side Effects has a gritty guitar hook and that thick fuzz sound surrounding by electronics that have this tick tock like melody. The vocals offer a great rock performance here. This is where I hear some of the Siouxsie and The Banshee influence especially in the vocal performance. This is a song that I could listen to over and over. Elixer is a top notch album that combines industrial sounds and alternative rock with a powerful vocal performance throughout the album.
