Best known as a founding member of the highly successful electro-rock (elecktrodelic) band Anything Box, the man simply known as Claude S. has finally released the highly anticipated album “Separate”. This marks his second album following the release of “Page One” in 1995.It seems with this album; Claude has decided to revisit a certain era of time. When I listen, he takes me there with him. This journey sends us through the late 70s-early 80’s post-punk movement but adds unique elements that suggest a new era.
Claude has added his familiar vocal brilliance with well written songs such as “Give Up The Monsters” and “Everything Ends”. These songs tend to get inside of you and provoke a connection between you and the music. With unique and catchy musings, it reminds us that this is how music should make us feel. This realization is confirmed again as I listen to the track “My Weakness Is Your Illusion”.
“Separate” continues to push the boundaries and restores belief that there are still musicians out there that don’t compromise their creativity to cater to the music industry and some of the main-stream audiences that tend to chew you up and spit you out when the next big thing comes along. This album is clearly one of the best albums of 2005.
