Band: Memphis Three
Interviewer: Julie Johnson
Date: 11/4/04

GC: What is the name of your band and who are the current members?

Our band name is Memphis Three and our current members are John - Guitar/vocals, Andy - Bass/vocals, Chris - drums.

GC: How did you become connected to make music?

We have all been friends for a long time.

GC: What are your musical influences?

Everything.

GC: What is your live show like?

Full of energy

GC: Tell us about your own unique style of music?

We try to write music that isn't like anything else. But keeping it hardcore.

GC: What serparates your band from all the other bands out there?

We are trying to write music that is technical and we try to create our own sound.

GC:How do you go about writing songs?

John usually writes the guitar riffs and we all add to them after that.

GC: Pick one of your latest song and talk about everything from writing it, meanings, the challenges of recording it?

We have a new song that isn't finished yet and we're still coming up with all the parts. It's been hard writing the song and a long process. The song lyrics are about a friend that lies and never lets himself be himself. Recording it shouldn't be too big of a challenge.

GC: What is your latest news with the band?

We just got a booking agent and we're going to be getting more shows now. In the New York, New Jersey, and Philadelphia area. And some shows in Virginia.

GC: Where do you hope to be in 5 years with your band?

Signed to a good label. Making music videos(maybe). Constantly touring. Also having a good fan base.

GC: How are people currently reacting to your music?

Everyone tells us that they like us a lot and we're really good. I am gracious to hear anyone tell us that. Thanks.

GC: What would be the top 3 reasons for listening to your music?

Something new. Something energetic. Something passionate.

GC: What is your best experience as a band? Every moment with the band is the best experience. Especially live shows.

GC: What is your worst experience as a band?

Not playing.

GC:What is most important to you in your band?

Delivering good songs that people want to hear. Being a good live band. With raw talent.

GC: Do you have a personal favorite song, could be your own or other, and why?

I like Nirvana, and all of their songs. They're the best rock band and they set new standards.

GC: What was the hardest song to write and why?

All our songs are hard to write. But it's not too hard, we just have to think of the write mix of different parts.

GC: What do you think of the current gothic/ EBM/ Industrial/ noise/ synthpop etc scence today?

I dont know? I dont think I'm really in that scene.

GC: What music do you currently listen to, and why?

Every Time I Die, Ed Gein, Scarlet, As I Lay Dying. They're all great bands.

GC: How do you keep changing your music from album to album or plan to change it?

We're gonna keep everything new from album to album. We won't want to go back but move forward with everything we do.

GC: What kind of recording environment do you have?

We don't really have any recording studios around our area.

GC:How long did you spend on your latest effort? We recorded it by ourselves with a digital recorder. It took about 4 days to do 4 songs. Long hour days.

GC: What is the hardest thing about being in a band for this genre?

You have to be new and write stuff no one has heard or would expect. People are jaded in this scene and like new things. So we have to keep it fresh.

GC:Feel free to do any shameless self promotion here of you band, now is your turn to talk about anything you want about your band, ideas, or life in the band.

Our band is a 3-piece hardcore/grind/metal band from Virginia. We love to play music and love what we do. We all want to be doing this for a living and nothing else. It's all in our hearts.
