glowsuninterview

Napalm Records has become one of the best known labels to release innovative and experimental artistic bands in the Psychedelic Stoner Rock genre. Glowsun was born in 1997. After two demos and several line-up changes the band stabilizes around 2005 Jaccob Johan (guitar, vocals) Ronan Chiron (bass), Fabrice Cornille (drums) with 4 titles "Lost Love". Sound "Stoner Rock Psyche" of Glowsun will be quickly noticed by the Belgian label Buzzville Records who signed the trio for a first album.

The last album "Eternal Season" again mixed and recorded by Olivier T'servrancx, mastered by Goran Finnberg and art work done by Johan Jaccob, released in October 2012. Freshly signed to the Austrian label Napalm renowned Records, Glowsun is now recognized as a reference of its kind in Europe!

Grave Concerns E-zine: You guys have created very interesting soundscapes on your album. I not only hear psychedelic rock and stoner rock, but also hints of post-rock, shoegaze, doom metal, and atmospheric metal in there.

Grave Concerns E-zine: What would you name as your most important inspirations?

GS: Well, our inspirations come from our different musical route. But it is pretty difficult to say exactly where we find it, we listen all three differents styles, but of course we're ok on common groups such as The Heads, Fu Manchu, OM, Yawning Man, and many others.

Grave Concerns E-zine: How do you compose your songs?

glowsun3

Do you start from a theme, a vision, a painting and then start jamming? Or do you use another approach?

GS: We start by a jam, and quickly if there something who look good to be explore, such a good riff, or a good sound, we work in combination with all the idée we have, without putting pressure, such as with vocals if we feel there is no place for singing we do not force the things and of course, it is very important that each of us feel good with all the plans.

Grave Concerns E-zine: Could you tell us something more about the brilliant artwork on the cover of the album?

GS: It's Johan Jaccob who did it! He's not only the guitarist of the band, but also un très bon graphist-designer he work for many bands and for gigs art-works. For us, Eternal Season is life after the death of a biological point of view and not esoteric, it has inspired the choice of the tree leaf proliferation . After the extinction of the human species, the nature will take its rights. The female face in the middle of the cover is somehow the last traces of our civilization.

Grave Concerns E-zine: You're now playing some concerts around Europe. Do you have any special habits before a gig (except warming up)?

GS: We use any encens with pure bark and herbs during the gig at the front of stage.

Grave Concerns E-zine: Do you guys have a favorite country and/or venue to perform at?

GS: Somewhere where the atmosphere is always right to push you guys a little above your regular show? Yes there's a cool venue in Germany "Feierwerk" in Munich we already played two times in this venue in each case all is very good !

Grave Concerns E-zine: What have been the most memorable moments while playing in the band?

GS: During the "Up in Smoke Tour" 15 days in a night liner, it was very fun and a great experience !

Grave Concerns E-zine: Which bands do you listen to, and do you have any recommendations of bands you find particularly inspiring and creative?

GS: Well, we listen much bands like The Swords, Clutch, Naam...and many many more !

Grave Concerns E-zine: What kind of gear do you use to create the additional sounds on the tracks? How do you handle this on stage?

GS: We use a sampler on stage who is controled directly by Johan.
