The Good Witch

The majestic and simplistic beauty in nature, and the healing gifts offered; the ability of senescing things yet to happen, and finding solutions for it not to become a harsh reality; the uncanny ways some are able to speak with animals; crafting words of wisdom, that are so pure in their meaning, one can’t find a strong enough reason not to give it a whirl; and feeling deep in your bones like there is something more than what is seen or heard...is magic.

“The Good Witch” enchanted me; and I hope those who’ve seen the movie, will reflect upon the heartfelt and important messages of being proud of who you are, those unique characteristics which make you special; standing up for what you believe; helping others simply because you want to; and giving love a chance. All that, and more, adds up to being the best person you can be today, tomorrow, and for each day after. Finding the magic in oneself and channeling it for good, is a gift. For others, that wonderful gift is harnessed from an even deeper realm, from which the magic will more strongly develop over the course of time.

Cassie Nightingale (Catherine Bell) is the beguiling new neighbor who has arrived in the picturesque town of Middleton, and who owns the deed to “The Grey House” an eyesore which some of the people in town would like to be demolished. Local police chief and widower Jake Russell (Chris Potter) instantly is charmed by Cassie’s unique spirit, and caring soul. As well as, her marvelous demeanor, which is quirky, smart, and down to earth. Jake’s two children Brandon (Matthew Knight) and Lori (Hannah Endicott-Douglas) also found Cassie to be a comfort and a friend, and who each found very special ways of fixing what had been troubling them though Cassie’s help. So much so, that both believe Cassie is a witch…a good witch. The ingenious part of those, and other stories has viewers wondering was it just the way Cassie handled the situations presented to her, by showing true interest and the want of helping, or was it magic?

The Mayor’s wife though, Martha Tinsdale (Catherine Disher) an uptight, prejudice snoot, who has more bees up her butt than in her bonnet, is Cassie’s least favorite person in town---and she wants her to leave, and goes go about finding ways for it to happen.

“The Good Witch” has the witchy elements craved in such a film---an old decrepit house no one wants to go near because its rumored to be haunted; a black cat; glass jars filled with herbs in the kitchen…the caldron on the stove piping hot; the witch’s broom; and the mysteriousness of a woman whose intuitiveness begins to have the townsfolk question who exactly is Cassie Nightingale, what secrets lie in the shop she opened, a shop unlike any other in the town, called Bell, Book and Candle (Bell, Book and Candle is the name of the 1958 movie starring James Stewart and Kim Novak…who played a witch) and why are certain customers affected by their spellbinding purchases?

So until the end is revealed…is it really? “The Good Witch” is a beautiful and touching story, casting more than what is seen and felt.

“The Good Witch” premiered on the Hallmark Channel Saturday, January 19th, 2008 at 9:00 PM. An encore will be shown on Friday, January 25th, 2008 at 9:00PM. If Hallmark decides to make this movie available on DVD, you can be sure as witches are good and pure, magical and captivating, healing and resourceful, that this lady right here…yeah me, will be getting a copy in a poof!
