This debut release from the one-person Spaniard band Ultraviolet entitled “A New Day” is able to captivate this writer immediately. Any time great song-writing meets both brilliant and emotional vocals, you have the make-up of a powerful work of art. The bands name proves to be the correct adjective for the project. All corny clichés aside, this album causes the listener to feel and provokes a certain energy that we may not always be in touch with. The case and Point are made with words like “The mistakes that I have made become my teacher” .Notice that I have yet to bring up the great electronic programming and melodies that sell this beautiful drama? Yet, this is another brilliant facet to this piece of work. The bands first single “Sea Of Purity” exemplifies the overall mood and form of the album. The man behind the sound, Javier Martin Balsa writes music based on his personal experiences and life in a small place outside of Madrid. Very autobiographic, very brilliant. In a genre that has been lacking sincerity over the past few years, Ultraviolet reclaim the emotional spirit in which synthpop was born. In the opinion of this writer, you should expect great things from UV in the future.
