Silica Gel- Genesis

This is the debut full length release from Spanish Synthpop duo Silica Gel. Released on the Different Drum label, you know even before listening that this is amongst the cream of the synthpop crop given the profile of the label itself.

Describing themselves as Pop Futuro (Future Pop), musically they are very proficient. This is chilled out, laid back synthpop at its best, with more than a hint of mellow trance, a sound epitomised best on ‘Dime Por Que’

Vocally, Alberto Palazon is certainly an accomplished performer, although to these uncultured ears the fact that he sings in Spanish means it is hard to lyrically empathise with him. This is not a suggestion that he should sing in any other language than his native tongue, but unfortunately singing in any other language than English often precludes success.

The album has a very distinct overall feel to it, and should find favour with Depeche Mode aficionados for sure.
