Reviews CD Reviews Synthpop, New Wave Bow Ever Down- The Product of My Pain

ARTIST: Bow Ever Down

ALBUM: The Product of My Pain

LABEL: Nilaihah/Hitman Records

REVIEWER: Matthew J.

DATE: 6-12-10

From the unlikely location of Bangor, Maine comes the newest signing to Nilaihah Records, and fans of the label's flagship act The Azoic will especially love Bow Ever Down's blend of soaring female vocal hooks and energizing techno sequences. Songs like "Bleed," "Carry On" and "Embrace the Darkness" are the perfect blend of gothic themes and dance floor beats, with melancholy choir synths and band founder Kimberly Kornmeier's darkly romantic lyrics balancing out the epic trance-fueled synth progressions laid down by programmer and producer Nick Deflaminis. Fans of more classic synthpop will also appreciate songs like the up-tempo "Believe," which pairs Kornmeier's gorgeously throaty croons with a keyboard sequence that could have been borrowed from a lost New Order track, and the quieter "Perfect World" melds vintage-sounding electronic tones with hints of more organic piano. Deflaminis also contributes a remix of the latter track from his solo project, Sonik Foundry, that takes things in a decidedly more rave-oriented direction with a pulsing high-BPM kick. Enamored with dark themes but full of enough adrenaline for the perkiest of perky goths, this is an album that's easy to like and will appeal especially to fans of Ayria, Cylab, and of course The Azoic.

*Special Note*-As of May 2010, Kimberly Kornmeier has left the band and will no longer be performing with Bow Ever Down. Nick Deflaminis and Linda Deflaminis will be taking over the band and  Linda Deflaminis is now the main vocalist. She currently recording new vocals.
