From Torino, Italy, Sell System is a Pop/Electronica project. Their album, “Red Room” is full of techno-inspired, lush arrangements and soulful vocals. A mix of techno and synth-pop, the eleven-track album contains songs with tight, melodic programming, and a decidedly pop sensibility. While some of the music is more straightforward pop, some of the album’s songs are dance influenced. Fans of synth-pop in the vein of Wolfsheim will find something here to like. The album’s songs vary little from typical techno-pop. “Black Rose” is a soft, ambient ballad. “Egocentricity” picks up the pace slightly, with a beautiful, ringing arrangement in the chorus. “Afternoon Song” is melancholy and somewhat plaintive, with very nice vocal harmonization. “I Want” is a little bit more aggressive, but the band seems more comfortable in melodic/ambient territory. “Easy Life” is another song with a little more of a dance influence. Still, it’s the vocals that carry the song. Fans of synth-pop and pop/electronica will be pleased. The band crafts lush synth arrangements with vocals that display considerable pop sensibility. Sell System doesn’t display a lot of range, but in their comfort-zone, there are good songs on this album.
