ARTIST: Fixture for Toxins
Electronic noise doesn't come much purer than Fixture for Toxins. The project eschews programming, MIDI, and even drum machines, using just synthesizers, samplers, and a microphone to record everything in one take. Intricate layers and complexities are understandably in short supply on this EP, then, but fans of brutal minimalism will have their hands full. "The Mourning Journal" is a blast of pulsing power electronics, complete with the occasional growled lyrics, while the only interruption to the intense wall of distortion that is "Salem's New" is the occasional glitch or squeak. "Vindication" is a brief snippet of low-end feedback laced with more growls, and final track "An Evening in Review" starts things off with bass-heavy distortion but builds to an abrasive squeal, so be careful if you're listening to this on headphones. At just under 20 minutes, this is just long enough to give you a fix of extreme noise without giving you an accidental overdose, but if you're a fan of stuff like Non and early Controlled Bleeding, you're bound to want more.
