ARTIST: E.I.D. (presented by End: The DJ) ALBUM: Death by Stereo single (as featured on End: The DJ's The Chrome Elemental mix album LABEL: Xenomorph Productions REVIEWED BY: Matthew J. DATE: 1-14-09 Released to coincide with End: The DJ's first official mix album, The Chrome Elemental, on which this track first appears, this free digital single features three mixes as well as the original version. EID's "Death by Stereo" is a hard-driving minimalist power noise track, all thumping beats and loops of what sound like a jet taking off; a sample of the song's title delivered in a robotic monotone adds the barest hint of old-school electro flavor. Of the three remixes, Black Selket vs. Stahlnebel provide the most dance-friendly mix, stripping away some of the distortion for something that straddles the line between power noise and minimalist house, rather like Terrorfakt's less abrasive work, while The Erektor's remix is by far the most brutal, cranking up the distortion and feedback to make things extra aggressive. DJ Spetsnaz's remix falls somewhere in the middle, more distorted than the original track, but also fuller in sound, and is perhaps the best version here. With its relentless groove, it's easy to see why a DJ would slip this track into a mix, and hopefully this free download will draw more attention both to EID and to End: The DJ's current North American tour.
