With its gloomy track titles like "Graveyard Fog" and "The Willow Grove Under Waning Gibbous," Fixture for Toxins' latest CD-R hints at darker, less abrasive moods than previous releases. This is not the case, though; the prolific noise project is as harsh as ever, the majority of the tracks on offer consisting of death march feedback rhythms and raw-throated bellowing. Opening track "The Post Meridiem Panic" is as close as Fixture for Toxins comes to melody, and even that is little more than hints of distinct notes arising from a deep bass-heavy rumble punctuated by squeals and shrieks. "Dusk to Dust" is marginally less tortured, vocals spoken instead of screamed, though still rendered incomprehensible by the crackling of static, and despite a comparatively cheery title, "Sunlit Infinite" is rawer and grittier than ever, completely buried in waves of distortion. If the themes of this release are less angry than gloomy, the music itself is as extreme and grating as anything the noise scene has produced, though that certainly recommends it to diehard power electronics fans.
