This review is split in to 2 parts, for the new comer, and for the wumpscut fan. If you do not know who wumpscut is, or have only bought one album (post 2000, or at Hot Topic), then you are a new comer, and you still matter, just not as much.

FOR THE NEW COMER:

:Wumpscut: is a pinnacle part of modern industrial history, a vital member of the scene, and a dance club must for those elitist rivetheads. No question about it. I personally own an obscene amount of :Wumpscut: albums, and have followed them accordingly throughout the years. The thing about :Wumpscut: is that there are so very many albums in so many years, that it is hard to talk about them. A lot of people discredit everything past Embryodead (1997), some Bone Peeler (2004), and some dont give a shit when it came out, it is amazing.

With over 16 full length releases (not counting reissues and remasters,) it is hard to discredit anything :wumpscut: has ever done. I personally did not care for Evoke (2005), but I still own it and go back to it about every other year.

2011's Schrekk & Grauss is no different. It is an amazing album musically. Rudy, the sold member of :wumpscut:, takes the chances to use some different sounds and some different styles to make a really creepy album. It's not traditionally creepy, like brood-y creepy, but in kind of a tribal deep forest creepy.

There are some classic sounding songs, like “Muselmann,” and there are some club tracks, like the title track, and there are some truly strange tracks, like “Jiddisch is A Zwillink.”

FOR THE :WUMPSCUT: FAN:

For those of you who know what it is you are talking about, and are like me, buying all wumpscut releases without question, this is a review for you.

Schrekk & Grauss is half good. It has a lot of the same feel as Fuck It, and Siamese. There are some songs, like Muselmann that is reminiscent of Embryodead. The intro track Rudolf Wolzek kind of reminds me of the Bone Peeler days. So it's kind of all over the place. I didn't really care for Siamese. I really liked Fuck it. So if you like new :wumpscut:, you will like this. If you are in the high hope elitist chair that Rudy will go back to the Bunkertor 7 days, you wont like this.

Also, the remix album is worth buying just for the Muselmann (Thermonuclearity Remix).
