Evestus is a project that evolved from the Estonian metal band Solwaig in 2003, and following the success of the first two albums "Destiny In Life" (2004) and "Wastelands" (2006), we now have "This Is Dramacore".

With an art style reminiscent of Marilyn Manson's "Hollywood" period, the album is very well presented, as is the official website (see above link) which stays in theme nicely, using the "Dark Carnival" Blueprint nicely to create an anticipation of what is to come.

Describing Evestus' sound concisely is very difficult, as essentially Evestus is a sample heavy blend of alternative electronica with dashes of Industrial, Metal, Hip Hop and even World Music thrown in, but without any one sound seeming to dominate the others.

It is immediately apparent that a lot of thought has gone into this album, with strong themes running throughout with the lyrics, music and artwork all working in conjunction to create something increasingly rare these days.

An album!

Now what I mean by that is of course, that it feels like the album was constructed as a whole as opposed to a bunch of songs cobbled together from unrelated ideas.

The music runs the gamut from Nu-Metal styled Rock pieces, through Industrial Rhythm based noise anthems and sometimes ending up in quirky soundscapes, never seeming to settle long enough for the listener to let their guard down, with samples dropped in at regular intervals to help give the songs an added momentum and texture.

All of this leads to a very busy, convoluted series of songs, that makes for a very intense listening experience, heavy on atmosphere, light on convention.

In terms of the artists that you can see have had an influence, there is without a doubt a Marilyn Manson vibe, with elements of Aphex Twin, Laibach and Front Line Assembly all in there.

If you are looking for something different, Evestus has "Unique" written through it like a stick of Blackpool rock, and has enough ideas and quality to offer up an honestly strong album for general consumption.
