ARTIST: Final Cut
Back with their first new material in nearly 10 years, Detroit industrial act Final Cut offer up "Tripp Six Fixx," the first single from a forthcoming new full-length. Featuring Faster Pussycat's Taime Down on guitar, among others, "Tripp Six Fixx" is slick modern industrial, with band founder Anthony Srock sneering cynically over pulsing electro beats and sharp-edged power chords. It's promising stuff, and though it's the only real taste of the forthcoming album, this CD is filled out nicely by three alternate mixes. The "And the Truth Comes" mix builds echoing loops of vocals over big beat rhythm, the "Vox Hit" mix edges into electro territory with plenty of vocoder, and the "Slo Mo" mix finishes things off with a darker, heavier take that keeps the guitars in place for a hint of old school industrial flavor. It's great to hear Srock and friends playing industrial again, and judging from this early glimpse, the new Final Cut album will be at least as good as anything they put out in the '90s.
