About 2 years ago I was first introduced Ahab Rex and now Ahab Rex has a little offering called “The Queen of Softcore”, and although it is just five songs long and mostly remixes of The Queen of Softcore” ,I feel that Ahab Rex has grown as a band. I feel this short five song CD more memorable then the Ahad Rex Quintet. I like the more rock feel and the dark and tough guy sounding vocals that the first two versions offered. The Press remix added some more experimental and funk feel. The strongest remix comes from The Countdown remix. It has more of a rock feel but with more industrial and synth power. I could see this being the standout remix and possibly played in a club or radio. The last remix by Nookleptia has more of a noise approach and the vocals have more of a distorted feel. So, after giving this a serious listen, I feel Ahab Rex is a lot more promising then I once thought and leaves me wondering what the next full-length album may sound like? All I know is that Ahab Rex has matured and definitely found a sound that works or least that is my new opinion of the band since my first introduction. I think I am going to back and listen to the first release again.
