With an opening track entitled ‘8 Bit Piece of Shit’, a violent and offensive tribute to the Nintendo character Mario, and the name Circus of Dead Squirrels, you can be sure right from the start that this is no introspective, gentle nonsense.
You need to imagine Ministry on some sort of jihad of tastelessness in order to capture the full CODs experience. Guitar riffs slice across industrial drum barrages, with demonic vocals roaring throughout.
This is slightly tongue-in-cheek industrial rock at its very, very best. Slickly produced and packaged, CODs actually released this album in 2004, but if you’ve not been introduced to their particular brand of insanity yet, then welcome!
Standout tracks have to be ‘Bendable Jesus’ a breakneck, killer riff odyssey, and ‘Rubber Ducky F**ker’, a genuinely disturbing vision of alternative bathroom antics. Make no mistake here, if you have any sensibilities when it comes to foul language or descriptions of Sea Monkeys devouring family pets you may well be better off with the latest offering from Green Day or some other bland nonsense.
If, however, a tasteless barrage of guitar driven, industrial screaming coupled with violent and sick lyrical content are your thing, then trust me – Circus of Dead Squirrels are definitely for you!
