Vigilante has a lot in common with German band Die Krupps: the big electronic beats, the hard but catchy guitar hooks, and high-minded subject matter focused on such intangible qualities as freedom, justice, and honor. With this EP, the band really start to come into their own. Thanks to Spanish-language versions of "The Other Side," "One Good Reason," and "Survive" (now entitled "Juicio Final," "Resistir," and "Sangrar," respectively), the Chilean band evokes a solid sense of place, a connection to their homeland that sets them apart from similar bands; there will be no mistaking them for yet another German techno metal act now. On the other hand, remixes from Funker Vogt and Obszon Geschopf are solid club killers no matter what country you belong to, while Amateur God puts forth a new mix of "Before" that adds a slower, more apocalyptic feel and makes for one of the CD's most unique offerings. There's also a mix of "Survive" from Chiasm that incorporates female vocals alongside hard trance leads and thrash guitar. Vigilante's debut was a good one, but this EP is even better. Check it out if you're into groups like Die Krupps, KMFDM, and Ministry.
