Obnoxiously catchy, punk based, energetic, horror rock. An addictive blending of programming and samples, laid out over aggressive guitars, pounding drums, and heartbeat-like throbbing basslines. That is the only way I can describe the Des Moines, Iowa based band The Albino Spiders.

This is a band that is difficult to catergorize, taking influences and sounds from many different sources and shaping them into their own unique genre and style. Vocalist and Bassist Zarrie bares himself to the world while performing and writing, and it is evident in the raw emotion that prevails throught the tracks on "Rough Cuts, Rougher Kisses". The vocals convey a sense of a foreboding and bleak future, and are complimented by the harmony and screams provided by Jeramy (Guitars) on background vocals.

Take a listen to the album and you will discover how hard it is to pin this band down to one sound. From the quick paced and poppy opener "Fallen Souls Symphony" to the driving horror anthem "Children of the Night", all the way through to the closing acoustic live track "Thin Line Between Love and a Razorblade", they show us this fact in spades.

Passion to the music is what the sound of The Albino Spiders comes down to, and that's enough. Fleshed out with comparable sonics and shaped into eight creatively original songs, the Albino Spiders have produced a great album. In a bad time for younger bands, in the heyday of "emo," these four ambitious young men are reason for hope.
