Only two musicians form Mantar, a new half German, half Turkish band that have unleashed their debut album Death By Burning upon us about 2 months ago.

While Mantar exists less than a year, they managed to release their debut album very quickly. And that album is a pure bullet of energy. Death By Burning is a raw, self produced and 100% DIY display of power. Even though there is no bass guitar in Mantar, these guys manage to sound heavier and truer than most bands with five or more members.

Svart Records warns us with the following words: “Just drums and guitar set for destruction. Forget about Rock 'n Roll. This will hurt. Flogging beats and blackened melodies meet feedback orgies and doom mayhem. Early Melvins, Motorhead, Darkthrone. You name it. Don't call it sludge though. Everything as black as possible. A soundtrack for the final battle.”

While Mantar sound deep and heavy, they still groove as well. Remember the excitement and energy The White Stripes had when they released Elephant? Mantar have just that amount of great rock and roll energy in their work.

Death By Burning features 10 tracks in 44 minutes. Most tracks are short and punchy – quite the opposite of the lengthy epics the metal scene is used to. One of the highlights of the album, “The Berserker's path” is less than 2,5 minutes in length, but it's an excellent display of condensed energy, expanded with some great movie voice samples.

Forget the revival of old school doom. Mantar are showing us the way into the future.
