After releasing an EP in 2007, their debut CD Colossal in 2008, Hebosagil from Finland have now released Lähtö, which sounds more or less like a block of concrete being poured into your brain.

Hebosagil created some of the heaviest, greasiest, filthiest songs I've heard in a long time. As Ektro Records states it in their press release: “...their manner of exiting is BIG, loud, penetrating, and hard to the core. From the fallout, the radiometers are detecting remnant radiation from Slayer and Melvins, while the cockroaches may still recognize the brutal beat of Radiopuhelimet and Unsane. … They plunge towards more and more tormenting tunes that burrow into your frontal lobe, avoiding the pitfalls from which most of the so-called "heavy" and "uncompromising" bands are eternally doomed to seek a way out.”

Lähtö is fully sung/shouted in Finnish, which adds to the ununderstandable wall of sound that Hebosagil creates. Most of the songs are centered around thrash-influenced battering on the drums, deep, doom-like chords on the guitars and barking vocals.

At times, the work of Hebosagil comes across as a gimmick, but their live performance might be straight-in-the-face heavy. As a recording, however, it sounds all a bit too similar.

The references to the garage rock of the 90s and their raw sound are everywhere, and the energy is very high. The tracks “Ei ole mitään mihin palata” and “Matkalaulu” stand out on Lähtö for the way in which the speed/thrash blends in with the doom-like chords. At other tracks, Lähtö sounds as if it was recorded on an industrial ground or construction site.

To conclude: if you want a band that makes no compromises and throws you some brain-killing heavy mud straight into the face, go for Hebosagil. Their sound is about the heaviest and rawest that I have heard in a long time. Move over, black metal, this is the new extreme!
