Artist: Ordeal
Album: Atrocities
Label: Shiver Records
After the death of guitarist/vocalist Paul Helsen, the Belgian death metal band Ordeal had a decision to make. Break up the band or carry on? They decided to carry on with the band in their friends memory and they released a demo called "Flee" in 2003 as a tribute. "Atrocities" is the first full-length from the band and it's not too bad of an album. Released on Shiver Records, there's nothing fancy about the death metal being played on "Atrocities". Replacing an original lead singer can be a daunting task but Anaal doesn't seem to have a problem with it. His raspy growls are perfectly suited for the riffs being played by guitarists Les and Balloon. Lamme's drumming is excellent and Bor's skills on the bass seem to be on par as well. Though there isn't anything groundbreaking or very original on "Atrocities", it is a decent album of 90's inspired death metal similar to early Cannibal Corpse or Morbid Angel. Check it out if you're looking for a solid death metal album to listen to.
