Artist: Welkin
Album: The Origin
Label: Shive Records
Lately I have realised that there are a ton of bands from Belgium that I had no clue as to who they are. Some have impressed me immensely, some of the others like Welkin haven't left quite as good of an impression on me. I don't want to take away from the band as musicians, they are all talented. Even the vocalist Demis Holvoet is a good frontman, it's just the band doesn't have a ton of originality. To make it worse, Welkin play deathcore which is a style of metal that just doesn't interest me. Sure there are some elements of death metal in this style of music, but there aren't enough to overshadow the shitty metalcore influences. "The Origin" just sounds like a million other albums that bands like Job for a Cowboy or Divine Heresy have released to me. There's just not enough originality in it to keep me interested. If you like those bands then check Welkin out but if you prefer straight up death metal, then this album isn't for you.
