Chainsnap- Hollow

This is some pretty conventional heavy metal in the vein of Pantera and similar acts. Heavy guitars, bellowed vocals, you get the picture. “Death By Deception” has a nice Slayer feel to it, although the guitar solos are kind of pointless, while other tracks have more of a nu-metal vibe. “God’s Breath” sees vocalist Steve Schiller actually singing instead of grunting, and it works to good effect, especially with the bass groove. Bass also figures prominently on the title track “Hollow,” which has an edgy sort of funk to it reminiscent of early Korn, although it’s not quite enough to save the song from bad lyrics. Chainsnap definitely shows promise, and the touch of industrial metal sampling techniques on “Wanted Soul” suggests that they might eventually evolve into something that fans of Disturbed would like. Anyone but die-hard metal fans, however, will probably want to wait until they grow into their sound a little more.
