Kaniget- Kaniget

Hailing from Los Angeles, Kaniget manage to create a sound evocative of the very early days of UK Goth, with flavours of Siouxsie, Danse Society and Skeletal Family.

Vocals are not the strongest element of the package, although stylistically they do work with this darkly-influenced package. Guitars wail in a sea of chorus, with the occasional synth line thrown into the mix.

The standout track has to be ‘My Friend the Bottle’ – A female Nick Cave at his most morose anyone?

The major flaw of this album is the poor production quality. With the advent of affordable home recording and even mastering, there should be no excuse for this. Too many bands bury whatever genius they have beneath poor quality audio.

A further slight irritation for me would have to be the fact the band claim to have a ‘dry English humour’, yet have a song called ‘Blow up the UK’ I’m assuming this is no ironic parody. As well as a certain element of contradiction here, never expect a glowing review from someone form the UK, even with our characteristically ‘dry’ humour
