I assume that this Italian trio have decided to take their name from the over-the-top majesty of a song that is the Sisters of Mercy’s “More”, and indeed this is goth rock at the rock-iest end of the scale
Album opener “Never” begins with a hypnotic drum pattern and spoken female vocals, before the riff kicks in – and what a riff. None of the thin, picked out arpeggios so often found in trad-goth. No, this is almost metal in its delivery, and it works well.
The main vocals lean towards the Eldritch-esque in their delivery, but it suits the mood well, so that we can forgive.
“Tears in my eyes” manages to do what so many others fail to do these days – introduce a real sense of melody, and thankfully, a real chorus. It’s another riff-fest, and probably the stand-out track of the album.
More need to concentrate on this element of their sound – the song writing is strong, but they should make those choruses even bigger, and even bolder.
Despite a couple of nods towards their influences, More manage to sound quite fresh and contemporary – a welcome change amongst the sound-alikes.
