Lotus Feed's “A Savage Breath Within Our Lives” delivers a preview of the band's full-length album “A Different Place”.   Founded in 1995 in Cologne, DE by Alexander Landsberg and David Sielaff, the band went through several line up changes, but with the recent addition of guitarist Marten Bijkerk and bassist Lars Tellmann in 2009, the band is ready to deliver their mixture of post-punk and 80's new wave, to the world.  Fans of 90's era Gothic rock like Ikon, The Last Dance, or Brotherhood of Pagans will thoroughly enjoy this EP.

Kicking off the EP is King for Two Days, which is best defined by its impressive bass-lines and very clean and heartfelt vocals.  The guitar work is quite impressive but what is most noteworthy is that the guitars take a backseat to the heavier and more sinister sounding bass which gives the song a very unusual balance but a sound that catches the listener's ear.  However on Get Me Out, the guitars take center stage, as the song opens up with rather wicked sounding post-punk chords, reminiscent of Corpus Delecti.  To be fair, almost every song, on “A Savage Breath...” seems to focus on one particular element of the band's sound.  Drawn Too, focuses on Sielaff's drumming, letting the beat be the main backing behind the vocals, while the guitar and bass fill in the background.  The song "Room With  A View" showcases the band's talents equally.  Wicked sounding bass, strong drums, wailing guitar, and clearly emotional vocals.  You can hear where Landsberg is really putting his all into the lyrics, particularly in the chorus and bridge when he starts to sound slightly out of breath but keeps powering on.

“A Savage Breath Within Us” is available for free download currently however the full-length album “A Different Place” will be released on 03/18/2011.  This reviewer highly recommends downloading this free EP as a sampler to Lotus Feed's music and if its your cup of tea then buying the full-length album to support the band.  “A Savage Breath...” clearly shows the strengths and passion that each member of the band brings to the collective whole without sacrificing the quality of any of the songs on the album.   While it took 15 years to find a combination that worked, Lotus Feed has laid the foundation to be one of the stronger bands within the Gothic Rock genre.
