I'm rather proud that I can present to you this lovely band from the U.K. and their (nameless) debut album. I can't say I write this review without any prejudice, as I fell in love with Pretentious, moi?'s music the second I heard it somewhere on an online radio.

So, I went out on a discovery trip on the net and discovered that Pretentious, moi? was found in 1994 by Tim Chandler, whom you might know from Autumn of North, Sins Of The Flesh and/or Manuskript. Originally Pretentious, moi? was not intended to become a fully fleged band as it is today, but because of the nice folks of Judgement day festival (Austria), who asked Tim to perform at their festival, Pretentious, moi? indeed became a band. Today it contains some of the best known musicians in the contemporary UK gothic scene, being: Tim Chandler, Gordon Young, Matt Helm and Christian Tonkin. Now and than we also hear the lovely Rachel Iden, who's contribution to the songs are a plus. No wannabe opera like vocals from her, like we're used to since Evanescene and Nightwish became popular "gothic" bands, Rachel really contributes to the songs in her own way, using her beautiful voice as a completion to the songs. In May 2010, the debut was finally cast upon this world and slowly but certain it's conquering the world, as now it's also stocked at Subterania Music in South Africa.

But why on earth should you buy this cd? Well, because in these days, you hardly find anything like this. It's all EBM and electro going about, but this album is nothing like that. Even though we find a good beat in the songs, like -for instance-in 'Sense in Segments' , it's nothing over the top. Sometimes we get a bit of folk influences mixed into the music, like in one of my favorites: 'Faith and reason part Company'.  I'm a fan of Tim's voice as well. It's enchanting and -to me- it was actually the reason for my search for more Pretentious, moi?

They say they're inspired by 90's German and British goth. For some of you, that says it all, but for those who hear the thunder roar over Köln(Germany :P) now, perhaps if I say The house of Usher, Star industry, The Eden House, Ikon, Frank The baptist and The Frozen Autumn show a good simularity on Last FM, you  get a fair idea what direction Pretentious, moi? can be found? So, if you're a fan of simular music, Pretentious, moi? is really something you should check out.
