Meow, this CD rocks! Although this CD was released back in 1999 it still is a CD was rocks today. Purr Machine is currently at work with new material and should be a highly anticipated follow-up. Purr Machine has a mix of gothic rock, ethereal with danceable electronics. Fans of Curve and will eat this CD right up. The opening track, “The Moon and My Head are both Full,” starts right off with a more edgy industrial dance sound and heavy guitars. What I like about this band is that they create an atmospheric sound that surrounds the more -heavier beats and guitar riffs. Betsy’s vocals soar with greatness and have a hypnotic melody to them. Other tracks on this album at times takes a softer approach and their more ethereal side slips in but not without a power thrust of electronics by Kevin. One of the most notable songs on this CD would be the powerful cover of "Send me An Angel”, also found on “New Wave from Hell”on Cleopatra Records. This cover really showcases the power of Purr Machine and their powerful blend of darkwave and industrial music. The programming crashes and pounds, which makes this song a great club hit. One of their more- darker tracks would be “Perspicuous Words,” where Betsy’s hypnotic vocals could put you in a trance. The bass within this song is a musical highlight with the more machine sound mixing to the melody of the programming. If you are looking for another danceable side of the band I would suggest you check out “Circumstance,” which starts off heavy and aggressive like you would hear from Nine Inch Nails, before the darker electronics that progress downward in octave, and picks back during the main chorus. “Ging Ging” is a pure adrenaline rush. I can’t wait to hear their next release in mid-2004.
