Hauntingly Good Entertainment 4 out of 5 Stars
The debut album “Gender” from Atlanta based “Entertainment” is just that; entertainment. Haughtingly good entertainment. From the intro track “Romance in the Rain” to “A seduction Walks” to the last track, “Flesh!”, this CD is full of moody, melodic sounds that seem to haunt listeners and suck them right in. Influenced by a lot of 80’s Goth bands but not to be compared to them and the more you listen to this CD, the more you will come to understand that. And though the band name may give an idea of something of the norm, don’t let that fool you. This band is nothing of that at all. In fact, they definitely exceed that very idea of just entertainment. The creepy vocal style and eerie guitar add so much depth to this gothic portrait of obscure absurdity. The one that seems to stick in my mind the most is the track “The Swing Movements”. This one in particular holds a very real and almost scary atmosphere that keeps me playing it over and over. This album in whole belongs in your home player and should remain there for weeks on end for easy access when you come home from a long day (or night if you’re like me) so that all you have to do is hit play because, after all, that’s entertainment.
