Synthetic, brings gothic and industrial sounds alive! Don’t be fooled by the name of the band and thinking that the music is synthpop like. The CD, “Control,” has a rock like feel that brings out many of the gothic tones. The guitar has a lot of power, especially in songs like “Going Down”. The song starts off with light electronics with a fuzzy synth sounds, and then the guitar opens the song more. I like the guitar solo highlight that loops around. The vocals remind of a more Morrissey, meets Joy Division sound with brings in their more new wave influence. The vocals have a moody feel. The vocals are really gothic like, and fit the more upbeat gothic pop-rock sound the band creates. The band does experiment with more electro elements with certain parts of their sounds, but the guitar is the main driving force for the music. The band, in many ways creates an old-school gothic sound, but keeps up with more of today’s EBM sounds. Another track, “Spooky Kabuki,” adds some piano, and more danceable electronics and great gothic guitar hooks. Synthetic, brings out many catchy melodies, and gothic hooks. This is a great CD that should not be missed. Other recommended tracks on the CD would be, “Show me the Way,” “Embrace,” and “Taboo” for a wonderful blend of electronics, gothic rock guitar, and strong gothic vocals. This is one of my top picks for a good gothic CD.
