Waves Under Water – Winter Garden – Demo Waves Under Water is a Dark Wave/Electro pair from Stockholm with and amazing sound. Formerly Hopscotch, they changed their name recently and have embarked upon their career. I was very impressed with their promo package with photos, a fantastic bio and a even a hand written note from the two. Their music is subtle yet strong and combines beautiful synths, great drum programming (Johan Svardshammar) and gorgeous haunting vocals (Angelica Segerback). I can’t think of anyone to compare them to but they must have strong eighties and gothic influences. Four songs are included on the demo including “Winter Garden”, “Thirsty”, “My Cup” and “I am the Ocean”. “Winter Garden” even has Johan playing the bass with, of all things, the sickle! I hope it was dull or he may have had many string changes. The songwriting is very strong and I don’t tire of any ”sameness” that so often plagues releases with similar phrasing and style. I hope you will visit them on Myspace and see for yourself just how great they are. Du Nord www.myspace.com/wavesunderwater
